MDOT to Hold RIDES Blitz Kickoff in Tupelo Next Week

JACKSON, MISS., The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce the 2011 RIDES (Roadways Into Developing Elementary Students) Blitz Kickoff will be held next week.
On Wednesday, April 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m., MDOT will hold the 2011 RIDES Blitz at Thomas Street Elementary School in Tupelo, Miss.
RIDES is a K-8 math and science program funded by MDOT. RIDES lesson plans are provided for teachers to be incorporated in every day class. The lesson plans teach students about transportation, energy, safety, the environment, litter and pollution. RIDES offers learning through hands-on activities and integrates art, music and reading throughout the program.
Beginning in the Fall of 2011, MDOT will begin showcasing the RIDES programs throughout the state. MDOT’s goal is to have a RIDES Blitz at each school participating in the RIDES program. This will allow each school to showcase how their students are using RIDES materials and educate the community on how RIDES is impacting student education.
Please join MDOT at Thomas Street Elementary School to learn more about the RIDES program, see student demonstrations in the RIDES labs and tour the Transploreum, on Wednesday, April 27, at 10 a.m.  For further information, please contact MDOT RIDES Representative Jessica McNeil at601-359-7338 or jmcneil@mdot.state.ms.us.
