Fred Hammond brings soul-stirring sounds to Jackson in free, one-night-only concert
JANS – Multi-award winning gospel artist Fred Hammond will perform in a one-night-only, free concert as part of the 2012 McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour, an annual summer concert series the company pioneered as a way to bring positive, uplifting messages and entertainment to communities nationwide. The concert will be held June 15 at the Jackson Convention Complex. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the soul-igniting singing starts at 7 p.m. Special guest Byron Cage and a local gospel choir being selected through the WJTV Mississippi Cares program will join Hammond for this evening of fiery, inspirational music. The concert is open to the public and free of charge; however a ticket is required for admission. “I look forward to sharing the hopeful messages of gospel music with Jackson as part of the 2012 McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour,” said Hammond, a 30-year gospel music veteran and former McDonald’s crew member. “Now more than ever, our communities need messages of hope and encouragement. My goal is to make sure everyone who attends the concert leaves feeling personally inspired and motivated to serve their community.” Now in its sixth year, the uplifting McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour began May 12 and runs through June 30, making stops in nine cities, including: Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Ft. Washington, Md., Jackson, Newark and Philadelphia. “We are pleased to host the McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour in Jackson for the second consecutive year. Last year’s support for this concert was so outstanding that Jackson deserved to again compete with some of America’s leading markets for this concert event,” said McDonald’s Owner-Operator Al Joyner. “Last year we had more than 2,700 in attendance and this year are prepared for more than 4,000 for this popular event,” said LeRoy Walker, McDonald’s Owner-Operator who serves as emcee for the evening. “It is an exciting night and there is no doubt with the talent of Fred Hammond will be inspirational,” he added. “We’re honored to bring uplifting, positive entertainment to communities around the nation through this tour,” said Rob Jackson, McDonald’s U.S. marketing director. “It’s just one of the many ways McDonald’s demonstrates its commitment to being deeply rooted in the community 365 days a year.” “The concerts will be full of energy,” Hammond said. “There will be a range of music from my early days to my latest album. It’s going to be one big praise party.” McDonald’s launched Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour as an extension of its 365Black platform, which celebrates the pride, heritage and achievements of American-Americans year-round. The multi-city concert series also emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community. As a part of each show, concertgoers will have an opportunity to learn more about and support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and the important role it plays in helping families in their local communities.
