HEARD FINALIST FOR 2011 ARTHUR ASHE SPORTS SCHOLARS

JANS – Student-athlete Jadtrl Christina Heard ’12 will be honored as a finalist for the 2011 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars Award.Heard, a junior radiation health physics and homeland security GIS major, will be acknowledged in the Arthur Ashe edition of Diverse Issues of Higher Education in April.Head Women’s Soccer Coach Christie Chambers-Brandon nominated Heard for the award. “Jadtrl is full of energy on and off the field and excels in the classroom as if she is on the field. We are very proud of her being a finalist for such a prestigious award,” shared Coach Chambers-Brandon.“It is an absolute honor to be considered among other talented individuals for this award, especially because it is inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe. I am extremely grateful to Coach Chambers-Brandon for this nomination,” stated Heard.Heard is an active member in the Health Physics Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honors Society and a forward/midfielder for the Lady Braves soccer team. She maintains a 3.75 GPA, is a Presidential Scholar and an honor student.Heard volunteers at the Natchez Children’s Home, tutors weekly at the Southern Dreams facility located in Fayette, Mississippi, and is a member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church in Natchez, Mississippi. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she plans to further hereducation by earning a degree in contract law. Heard, a 2008 graduate of Natchez High School, is the daughter of Grammy Award Winning Producer Andreao “Fanatic” and Ann Grennell-Heard ’93 of Natchez, Mississippi.
