Rep. Alyce G. Clarke visits her Alcorn State University

One of Alcorn State University’s shining examples of how a quality education can nurture a stronger community is Rep. Alyce G. Clarke (shown touring her alma mater). After a long career as a nutritionist, in 1985 she took health advocacy to a whole new level as the first black female in the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 69 in Hinds County. She continues to serve in that capacity as well as works with community organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., the Mississippi Public Health Association, Regional Association of Drug Free Schools and the State PTA. Rep. Clarke is a native of Yazoo City, MS, and considers her late husband Lee William Clarke, Jr. in her endeavors.
