Jesus Santana’s Two Run Homer Propels Tigers to 4-1 Victory Over Alabama State

JSU-logobaseballNEW ORLEANS, La. – Vincent Anthonia (5-3) pitched nine effective innings, giving up one run on three hits while the SWAC Freshman of the Year Jesus Santana helped provide the offensive firepower with a two run homer in the eighth inning to lead the No. 3 Jackson State baseball team to a 4-1 victory over No. 1 Alabama State in the first elimination game of the day.

With the win the Tigers stay alive to face Southern later today.

Trailing 1-0 after seven innings, JSU won the game in the eighth – scoring four runs. Gary Thomas and the SWAC Player of the Year Melvin Rodriguez scored the first two runs for JSU on a Jovany Felipe double to left field. Santana’s two run blast over the right field wall helped put the game out of reach.

Anthonia finished the game by getting three straight outs, striking out two.

Right fielder Bryce Brown went 3-4 at the plate. Gary Thomas finished with a pair of hits and a run and Felipe and Santana each posted a hit and two RBIs. JSU had seven hits.
